In The Deep Places
Jill Briscoe is one of my heroes. She and her husband have served in ministry for decades. Originally, from England they felt God calling them to serve in the United States. Jill began a magazine for women serving the Lord in ministry about 20 years ago. It is a vibrant magazine laced with wisdom, humor, insight and encouragement.
I love reading that magazine because the author has experienced all the joys and trials of ministry and her words carry a great deal of weight in my mind because she doesn’t handout patronizing advise or platitudes. Rather, Jill has worked in the trenches of ministry and her counsel is sound and reflective of someone who has spent much time in the presence of the Lord and much time serving His Children. She tackles difficult issues and she doesn’t flinch. In her book entitled, “The Deep Place Where Nobody Goes,” Jill speaks of the yearning of God for us to go to the deep places where nobody goes rather than settle for the shallow places where everyone lives. It is worth contemplating.
Do you prefer your “drive thru” quiet time with Christ, somewhat akin to an In’ n’ Out Burger spiritual experience with the mark of success being speed, or do your prefer a 7 course meal experience at La Gare, where you savor learning from the Master. Do you soak in the presence of God with the mark of success being your conformity to His Image?
As Jill Briscoe suggests, I encourage bypassing the “Shallow Places” where everybody lives and go to the “Deep Places Where Nobody Goes.” There we will find Jesus.
